OUR WORK
Adapt to an aquatic environment:
Taiwan Nato Tree can survive in waterlogged soils through its water-tolerant root system. These roots can effectively absorb water and oxygen even in low-oxygen environments. The trunk and leaves possess a certain degree of waterlogging tolerance, and stomatal regulation enables efficient photosynthesis in high humidity and water-rich conditions, reducing water loss while maintaining proper gas exchange.
Distributions :
Native to forests in northern and southern Taiwan, as well as Orchid Island, this species is now distributed in various locations such as Luzon and Palawan in the Philippines, Batanes Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Taiwan.
Ecology: habitat, pollination, and dispersal :
Growing in coastal areas, its distribution relies on the sea. Once its fruits fall to the ground and if they are not consumed by animals, landing in the sea, they may be carried by the ocean currents along Taiwan's eastern coast to other places.
Others:
Taiwan Nato Tree, also known as the Narra tree, is a species resistant to wind and salt. Due to its low susceptibility to pests, it is often used for shade and ornamental purposes. Its wood is suitable for making furniture and shipbuilding materials. Additionally, its bark can be used as a dye for fishing nets. Its fruits are edible.
